Land & Rights

Lands & Rights is where law and tradition meet — to protect, preserve, and guide the Keyoh

The Maiyoo Keyoh is more than territory — it is our home, our history, and our future. Our laws and responsibilities to the land existed long before colonial governments and continue to guide how we care for our Keyoh today.

Through Aboriginal Title and Rights, recognized under Section 35 of the Canadian Constitution, our family upholds its inherent authority to protect and manage our ancestral lands. These rights are not just legal concepts; they are living responsibilities rooted in generations of stewardship, respect, and balance with the natural world.

This section shares how we safeguard the integrity of our Keyoh through:

Recognition of Title & Rights — affirming the authority of the Keyohwudachun and customary governance.

Referral Policy — ensuring that any proposed activity on our lands respects our rights, responsibilities, and future generations.

The Maiyoo Keyoh Society continues this work to protect the land, water, wildlife, and cultural values entrusted to us. By doing so, we honor our ancestors and safeguard the way of life that sustains us all.
