
Referral Policy
Maiyoo Keyoh Natural Resources Referral Procedure Policy

On August 13, 2017, Maiyoo Keyoh adopted a Referral Procedure Policy for all proposed activities on the Maiyoo Keyoh territory that may impact the Aboriginal Title and Rights of Maiyoo Keyoh. Crown representatives and project proponents are encouraged to carefully review and follow this policy before undertaking any activity within the territory.
Initiating a Referral
To initiate a referral, the Crown or proponent must provide the Referrals Officer a written submission with enough information for Maiyoo Keyoh to fully consider the activity. At minimum, include:
Required contents (checklist):

Contact information: name, telephone number, and address of the person making the referral

Maps (hand-drawn maps are not accepted):

Overview map at 1:250,000

Site map at 1:50,000
-

GIS data: SHP files (.shp, .dbf, .shx) for the entire proposed project (roads, clearing, etc.)

Complete activity description, including:

land and resources involved
-
current and anticipated value of the activity

All supporting materials, including reports, studies, assessments, and background information, including (where applicable):

archaeology (PFR/AOA/AIA)
-
ethnography
-
traditional use
-
environmental information
-

Crown referrals only: steps taken to determine impacts on Aboriginal title and Aboriginal rights in the activity area

Third-party referral to Crown: if a third party has made a referral to the Crown to carry out an activity, include a copy of that referral

Additional information as requested by Maiyoo Keyoh
Note on proprietary information
If the Crown or proponent requires Maiyoo Keyoh proprietary information related to archaeology, ethnography, traditional use, or the environment, this may be provided upon request. Maiyoo Keyoh supports the use of information-sharing agreements and engagement agreements.

Referral packages must be submitted as follows:
