Governance & Bylaws
The Maiyoo Keyoh Society’s constitution and bylaws reflect the principles of Dakelh law and the Indigenous Keyoh governance system, adapted to a modern legal framework under the Society Act of British Columbia. This integration ensures that hereditary leadership, community responsibility, and land stewardship are formally recognized and protected.
Key provisions include:
-
Membership defined by the Maiyoo Keyoh Whut’enne Bughuni code
-
Roles and duties of the Keyohwhuduchun, President, and other officers
-
Procedures for meetings, decision-making, and elections
-
Financial accountability and member rights
-
Rules for amending bylaws through special resolution
The Keyohwhuduchun, as hereditary chief, holds final authority in accordance with Dakelh law and appoints the Society’s President to act as spokesperson within the legal framework. Members are encouraged to review the bylaws to understand how traditional values guide decision-making and community accountability.
These bylaws provide a transparent and lawful foundation for the Society’s operations, while preserving the sovereignty and customs of Maiyoo Keyoh.
