Mikoh Rose, member of the Maiyoo Keyoh and a Director of the Maiyoo Keyoh Society, begins swimming the Fraser River August 18, 2026 for 3 days as part of the Fraser River Challenge Expedition — a month-long, 1,400-kilometre relay running August 6 to September 4, 2026, in support of protecting 30% of the Fraser Rivershed by 2030.
Mikoh is swimming the Prince George to Quesnel section to raise awareness for Chinook salmon, a population assessed as Endangered by COSEWIC in November 2018. The Salmon River (Tsakoh), a tributary of the Fraser, flows through the Maiyoo Keyoh — where Chinook rear and overwinter in Tsa Bunghun, Lhizghun, and Keh Dot҆it҆aih.
A second-year student at Thompson Rivers University, Mikoh hopes to become a lawyer and help protect Indigenous legal orders, lands, and rights. When she's not in class, she stays active on the Keyoh through hunting, fishing, and gathering.
"This swim is my way of helping bring attention to Chinook salmon and the waters they depend on. As young people, we will inherit the decisions being made today, and I want to help make sure salmon remain part of our future." — Mikoh Rose

The health of the Fraser watershed is the health of the Keyoh. Protecting it is part of the responsibility the keyohwhuduchun carries under Dakelh law.
