Maiyoo Keyoh Remembers Joan Phillip

The Maiyoo Keyoh extends its heartfelt condolences to Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, their family and Nation, and to all those whose lives were touched by Joan Philip.
Joan was a respected MLA, matriarch, warrior, Elder, and leader who dedicated her life to advancing Indigenous rights and improving the lives of others. During the discussions surrounding DRIPA, she demonstrated the determination, strength, and courage for which she will be remembered.
One memory that will stay with the Maiyoo Keyoh is when Joan and Grand Chief Stewart Phillip travelled from Vancouver to Penticton and then on to Fort St. James to witness Grand Chief Stewart Phillip commission the marriage of one of our daughters in 2018. It was a long journey across British Columbia, made even longer when they had to turn around and retrieve the marriage register. Despite the inconvenience, Joan's warmth, generosity, and good spirit never wavered.
Joan will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
